Publisher Shiro Unlimited and developer FakeFish will host a playtest for cooperative survival first-person shooter Frostrail beginning April 16, the companies announced. Sign-ups are available now via the game’s Steam page.
“Frostrail pushes both solo players and [cooperative] teams to their limits with a tense and unforgiving survival loop,” said FakeFish lead designer Ez Jamsen in a press release. “We’ve worked hard to craft a world that feels both hostile and alive, and we can’t wait to see players carve their own path through the frost when the playtest begins.”
Here is an overview of the game, via Shiro Unlimited:
In a world frozen by a cataclysmic event, survival depends on constant movement. With the surface ravaged by sub-zero temperatures and relentless blizzards, steam-powered trains, and the tracks that guide them, are players’ last lifeline. They will have to brave the wasteland solo or in online co-op, and push ever forward into the unknown.
Abandoned settlements, frozen shelters, and underground ruins can be scavenged for vital resources to keep the train running. But the cold is not the only enemy. Revenants, corrupted remnants of the dead, are drawn to the roar of the engine. Players must craft weapons and gear, ration their ammo, and engage in intense FPS combat to survive the relentless assaults.
The deeper frost rewards exploration. The train can be expanded into a rolling fortress with new carriages, crafting stations, and defensive upgrades. Players will have to explore, manage resources, and survive, all while they endure blizzards, maintain their engine, and hold the line against the ever-present threat of the Revenants.
Frostrail is due out in Early Access for PC via Steam in 2026.
