Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus ‘Tanuki Kabuki’ update now available
New post-game content, including a boss rush mode.
The “Tanuki Kabuki” for Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus is now available, publisher Humble Games and developer Squid Shock Studios announced. It features new post-game content, including a boss rush mode, Tanuki races, collectibles, and quality of life improvements.
“We wanted to celebrate our players’ skill and style by turning combat into performance,” said Squid Shock Studios creative director Chris Stair in a press release. “The ‘Tanuki Kabuki’ update is our way of letting players take the stage and showcase their best moves, while also giving them ways to deepen their connection to Bo through fun collectibles and creative expression.”
Here is an overview of the update, via Humble Games:
The “Tanuki Kabuki” update adds new post-game challenges, gameplay options, and collectibles to the critically acclaimed hand-drawn 2.5D action platformer from Squid Shock Studios.
Completing the base game unlocks the “Tanuki Kabuki” update, the ultimate encore performance, transforming Bo’s world into a grand stage with a Kabuki-style Boss Rush mode, where players perform each battle before a reactive audience. In Solo Mode, players can pick and choose between individual boss encounters from the main game to replay, while Gauntlet Mode challenges them to face a curated sequence of fights in a single run. Optional Seals modify difficulty for greater rewards, and the audience responds dynamically to each performance, offering higher acclaim for skillful play.
The update also introduces the Tanuki Tracker questline, a post-game adventure where players search for mischievous Tanuki hidden across the world. Once discovered, these Tanuki can be raced in time-based platforming challenges. Emerging victorious unlocks new features inside the Kabuki Theater, including a Combat Rehearsal Room for practicing techniques, a Tanuki Kabuki Band jukebox for listening to music, and Bo’s Room, a space for displaying furniture and collectibles that players can customize. A new (completely free) gacha machine Bestiary has also been added, featuring 77 collectible dolls representing characters and enemies from across the game, expanding the lore and artistry of Bo’s world.
Beyond the new content, the “Tanuki Kabuki” update also delivers numerous balance adjustments, accessibility and quality of life improvements, stability updates designed to refine and enhance gameplay . . . and even a few secrets for players to uncover.
Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam.
