Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds launches in second half of 2020 in Japan; debut trailer, details, and screenshots

Netmarble and Level-5 released the first trailer, information, and screenshots for mobile massively multiplayer online RPG Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds at G-Star 2019, as well confirmed a planned release for iOS and Android in the second half of 2020 in Japan.

■ About

Level-5 and Netmarble have teamed up for a new adventure set in the world of Ni no Kuni and developed by Netmarble. With beautiful cel-shaded graphics, high-quality cutscenes, and the many songs that have made up the Ni no Kuni series, you can feel like you are going on a journey in an animation.

Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is being developed on Unreal Engine 4 by the core development staff of Lineage 2: Revolution.

• Combat System: Real-time hack-and-slash.
• Character Classes: There are a total of five character classes (Witch, Swordman, Rogue, Engineer, and Destroyer).
• Player-versus-Enemy: Main quests, Tsubakuro Company requests, special dungeons, advent dungeons, fantasy / trial labyrinths, field / world bosses, kingdom defense, familiar expeditions (player-versus-enemy), etc.
• Player-versus-Player: Warrior battlegrounds, sky island battles, kingdom battles, kingdom invasions, relic battlefield, throne battles, familiar expeditions (player-versus-player), etc.

■ Story

The protagonist is a beta tester for “Project N,” a virtual reality game developed by Mirai Company, a major corporation in the world of “Ichi no Kuni.” The protagonist was chosen out of hundreds of applicants…

The game world of “Project N” is a fantasy world called “Ni no Kuni.” The protagonist begins a battle against an army of monsters led by “Levant,” who attacked the “Nameless Kingdom.”

The protagonist fights the monster army alongside Shia, the queen of the kingdom, but Levant’s unreasonable power leads Queen Shia to opens a dimensional rift for the protagonist and a fairy named Kuu to escape.

The protagonist and Kuu emerge somewhere around the kingdom of Evermore, and set off on an adventure to rebuild the Nameless Kingdom and save Queen Shia.

Without yet knowing the truth this is a parallel world where the world of “Ni no Kuni” exists…

■ Character Classes

Adventure the world of Ni no Kuni with unique character classes made with attention to detail. Enjoy various styles of combat through each class.

Rogue

A nimble bow user that can pierce through enemies. It is a supporter class that can buff its allies.

Destroyer

A warrior that deals heavy blows with its giant hammer. It is a tanker class with various defense skills.

Witch

A magic user that wields a floating spear. It is an all-purpose class that possesses various skills, including debuff attacks and invincibility skills.

Engineer

A gunner that specializes in long-range attacks with its rifle. It is a healer class that can recover its allies.

Swordsman

A swordsman who wields a one-handed sword and prides itself on its exhilarating attacks. It is a tanker and supporter class that can debuff enemies to reduce the damage dealt to its allies.

■ Over 100 Familiars

Familiars are the reassuring allies of your adventure. In Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, over 100 familiars will appear. Befriend a great number of familiars, each with their own attribute, type, and personality, to support you on your adventure. Utilize each familiar’s unique skills to enjoy diverse battles.

■ Build and Develop Your Own Kingdom

The heart of Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is a community element called “Kingdom.” Build and develop your kingdom alongside your guild members. Deepen your bonds with the members of your guild and battle against other kingdoms.

Customizing Your Kingdom

A kingdom can be developed by using the resources obtained through methods such as battle, exploration, and requests. In additional to functional development such as building construction and leveling up, you can also customize the appearance of your kingdom.

The Ultimate Goal is to Create a Capital City

By competing and winning against other kingdoms in player-versus-player throne battles, your kingdom can become a “capital”—an ultimate kingdom. A kingdom that has become a capital has great authority, and you can determine the events that occur in the capital. These events will have a major influence on other participating players. For that reason, players will compete among each other in order to become a capital, which will give birth to various play styles and communities.

■ Players Create the Gameplay

In order to expand user communication in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, various content is being prepared to allow players themselves to create the gameplay.

Players can directly pick up and move objects such as wood and stones, and even the animals on the game’s vast field. This includes lambs. Bring a lot of lambs to your kingdom to make it thrive, and even steal the lambs from other guilds’ kingdoms.

There are a great number of objects in the game that are each independent in their own right. Through this, you can enjoy rivalries between players and various forms of communication.
