Uncharted 3 multiplayer detailed, beta dated
In coordinance with Naughty Dog‘s recent multiplayer reveal event for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, the developer and publisher Sony have released a trailer showing off the its utter madness, character, emblem, and weapon customization, ledge kicking, sprinting, and desire to kill everybody in the world.
The clip gives us a first look at The Chateau and Airstrip maps. The Chateau is a traditional style arena map. The Airship map, on the other hand, actually changes during the middle of the match. The first part of the match takes place on a massive cargo plane being chased by trucks and the second part when the cargo plane is preparing to take off from the runway. After takeoff, the map changes location to the airstrip hangar area.
Three multiplayer modes have been showcased, so far. Team Deathmatch, Three Team Deathmatch (2 vs. 2 vs. 2), and Free For All have all been confirmed. Naughty Dog will detail more modes over the coming months. Same console split-screen online has also been confirmed, allowing each user to log in to their own independent PlayStation Network account.
Adding for a more personal online representation, players have the ability to customize their own characters, emblems, and weapons. Weapon modifications are not solely cosmetic; you can add more accurate scopes, bigger clips, and other enhancements. Boosters carry over from Uncharted 2, adding a new set of ‘Paid Boosters’ which you can spend in-game cash on during a match. Kickbacks are confirmed, as well.
Not all upgrades are earned through leveling or purchasing, though. You’ll be able to find treasure chests on maps during a match that will unlock a variety of items and modifiers through Missions. There are two types of missions. Instant missions can appear during the middle of match and provide a goal that can be attained within a few matches. Long term missions are selected from the multiplayer menu and can take much more time to attain — even days. Obviously, the long term missions offer greater rewards.
Facebook will be heavily integrated into the multiplayer. Read more about that here.
A multiplayer beta will kick off on June 28, 2011.
We’ve no more words. Watch the trailer.
