The Last Guardian previewed in Famitsu
The latest issue of Famitsu has a four-page spread on The Last Guardian. Its editors played a demo session of the game and interviewed director Fumito Ueda.
The main focus of the leaks that’ve come out of the magazine seem to be on Torico, the creature that will team-up with the young boy. At first, you cannot communicate with Torico, so he’ll quickly lay to rest. He can be fed, but he can’t eat everything. If he eats something unappealing to his tastes, he’ll quickly spit it out. The rest of Torico’s actions are very detailed — he’ll even react differently depending on the sound in the area.
Torico may have a life gauge, but Ueda is currently worrying over showing gauges on-screen.
As for non-Torico related bits, the game will use a collision system with similar capabilities to that of Shadow of the Colossus; they don’t go into detail. The language spoken by the characters in-game is fictional.
Famitsu editors had their own take on the game. Apparently, it’s real beyond real. They describe the boy’s movements as incredible. Ueda noted that as the boy approaches a wall, he’ll naturally extend his arms out (as if to block impact); when he approaches the creature, he’ll naturally touch Torico. Ueda believes that you need to make these actions available in order to show a feeling of existence in the characters.
The preview included a brief note on the upcoming Ico / Shadow of the Colossus Collection for PS3. Ueda said that Shadow of the Colossus looks amazing in 3D and that they’re remaking the opening scene for Ico.
The Last Guardian is out exclusively for PlayStation 3 this holiday season.
Thanks, Andriasang.
