Ubisoft has officially lifted the lid on Driver: San Francisco at their E3 press conference yesterday. The fifth game in the franchise boasts a “groundbreaking” new gameplay feature called “shift”. This allows players to “shift” from their car to any other car in the city. Of course, there’s a limited amount of times a player can do this.
“In many ways, the DRIVER franchise defined the action driving genre with its unique blend of intense driving action and iconic locations,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “DRIVER San Francisco features a thrilling storyline and exciting new gameplay elements that are sure to captivate both long-time fans as well as newcomers to the series.”
The game’s in development at Driver‘s original developers, Ubisoft Reflections. In San Francisco, players will play as Detective John Tanner as he hunts down crime lord Charles Jericho. Players will be able to “shift” from vehicle to vehicle while doing this. For the first time, each of these vehicles are licensed, and they’re over one hundred of them.
The game is set for a Q4 2010 release on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Check out the first screenshots at the gallery. The debut trailer can be seen below.
