A new pre-E3 preview with IGN has revealed Hard Corps: Uprising, the spiritual successor to Sega Genesis’ Contra: Hard Corps and an anime-styled Contra without the word Contra in the title.
Konami describes Hard Corps as a “homage to legacy Konami run-and-gun platformers”. To simplify their quote, they’re describing it as a homage to Contra, basically.
Hard Corps stars Bahamut, an enemy in the original Contra: Hard Corps. This time, he’s fighting against the alien invaders that he was working alongside in the Genesis title.
Gameplay can be described in one word: Contra. That means running-and-gunning, collecting power-ups, and riding vehicles.
Arc System Works is developing, explaining the game’s anime-esque art style. They’re implementing a Rising Mode alongside the original Arcade Mode which allows players to take three hits before they die, making gameplay generally easier. Good for players who suck at Contra, such as myself.
Hard Corps: Uprising is slated for release on PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade this winter.
