3D Realms were developing Duke Nukem Forever for twelve years before ending so abruptly with the studio shutdown. The game’s publisher, Take-Two Interactive, lost $12 million invested in the game in that time. Now that 3D Realms’ time has passed and Duke Nukem Forever did not release, Take-Two is suing the now closed company.
Take-Two Interactive Software sued Apogee Software Ltd.’s 3D Realms over the failed development of Duke Nukem Forever under a breach of contract.
“Apogee continually delayed the completion date for the Duke Nukem Forever,†Take-Two said in the complaint. “Apogee repeatedly assured Take-Two and the video-gaming community that it was diligently working toward competing development of the PC Version of the Duke Nukem Forever.â€
However, here we stand today with no playable version of Duke Nukem Forever. Obviously, that means 3D Realms didn’t finish work on the game, which began development in 1997. 3D Realms closed down with no money, but it appears they’re going to owe even more now.
