Publishers 2P Games and 4Divinity, and developer NEKCOM Games have released the Gamescom 2026 trailer and new screenshots for “post-apocalyptic romance RPG” and “alternate history ensemble period drama” Showa American Story.
“Showa American Story is an RPG steeped in retro pop culture,” NEKCOM Games said. “In the late 1980s, a dominant Japan culturally colonized America. Resurrected from the grave, Chigusa Choko embarks on a road trip of combat, exploration, and growth across a world both absurd and strangely familiar.”

About
Showa American Story follows the journey of Choko, a young woman who suddenly revives from the dead to discover a wild world filled with zombies, monsters, and an eccentric cast of human survivors—some friendly, and others downright bad. Players will travel across the United States in search of answers and discover the extent of Choko’s mysterious and frightening powers. This unique RPG features a rich arsenal of melee and ranged weaponry, with Choko able to turn a variety of objects into tools of carnage. Choko will face hordes of enemies in fast-paced real-time combat, leveraging weapon-specific attacks, dodges, counters, and executions with fluid precision. Players can freely mix and match weapons and further enhance Choko’s stats to their bloody satisfaction as they level up, while also unlocking surprising new abilities by completing a variety of mini-games.
Showa American Story blends strategic combat, comedy, exploration, and an emotionally charged narrative that shows the value of human connections.
Live life to the fullest in this post-apocalyptic world, and never stop growing.
Showa American Story will offer players worldwide a unique cultural perspective. Its creators—including creative director XY.Luo—at NEKCOM grew up in China during the Reform and Opening-Up era of the 1980s, a fascinating historical period in which large amounts of American and Japanese popular culture entered China. The intensity of this cultural impact and fusion within a relatively short period was rare on a global scale. The concept of Showa American Story was inspired by the personal experience of its developers, applying a Japanese cultural influence on a North American setting from the perspective of Chinese creatives. NEKCOM’s strong authorial vision, which values strong creative voices and distinctive artistic perspectives, allows the studio to create games with unique identities and offer players experiences that feel personal, memorable, and highly-engaging.
