Tether-based precision platformer TetherGeist will launch for Switch and PC via Steam on May 7, developer O. and Co. Games announced.
“The tether defines everything the player can do,” said Jordan from O. and Co. Games in a press release. “We wanted something where mastery doesn’t come from unlocking new tools, but from learning how movement actually works in each space. Once you get into it, you stop reacting and start predicting.”
Here is an overview of the game, via O. and Co. Games:
TetherGeist is a precision platformer built around hyper-responsive movement that is challenging yet rewarding. In the tradition of games like Celeste, it features precise controls, fair but demanding difficulty, and instant retries designed for rapid learning.
Play as Mae, a young Mountain Shaman whose spirit cannot fully leave her body like others in her village. Instead of freely spirit-walking, she projects her astral form as a tethered extension of herself. When her coming-of-age pilgrimage begins, she must cross the world using her unique ability. Astral Projection allows Mae to extend her spirit outward like a grappling hook, swinging across chasms, weaving through traps, and executing movement that feels impossible until it suddenly clicks.
There’s no combat and no upgrade trees. Follow Mae and Bao, her axolotl spirit companion, on an adventure across a story-rich world filled with hidden secrets and multiple endings. Through their journey of obstacles that rewards practice and patience, uncover seven distinct Azae that reshape how Astral Projection functions throughout each region.
