Former Playground Games staff establish Maverick Games, developing ‘premium open-world game’ for consoles and PC

Former Playground Games creative director Mike Brown has announced the formation of Maverick Games, a new AAA game development studio based in Leamington Spa. It is currently developing “a new, premium open-world game for consoles and PC.”

Maverick Games’ founding members include:

• Mike Brown – creative director and studio head
• Harinder Sangha – chief operating officer (previously co-studio head of Sumo Digital Leamington)
• Tom Butcher – executive producer (previously at Playground Games)
• Matt Craven – chief technology officer (previously at Playground Games)
• Gareth Harwood – content director (previously at Playground Games)
• Fraser Strachan – audio director (previously at Playground Games)
• Ben Penrose – art director (previously at Sharkmob London, Playground Games)
• Elly Marshall – user experience / user interface director (previously experience design director at Electronic Arts)

“Our goal is for Maverick Games to be a studio people will love,” said Mike Brown in a press release. “For players, we’re already at work on an exciting ultra-high quality title, and for developers, we’re building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, be innovative, be themselves, and above all—be a Maverick.”

Maverick Games has secured “significant” seed funding and is “actively” working on its new title. It aims to offer an environment that supports, inspires, and empowers its talented staff.
