Rare announces new IP Sea of Thieves [Update]

Rare announced Sea of Thieves, a brand new IP coming to Xbox One and PC, during Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference this morning.

Here are the details, via the game’s official website:

  • Be the pirate you want – With musket loaded and grog in hand, the freedom of the pirate life awaits. What will your legend be?
  • An epic multiplayer adventure – Crew up and set sail on memorable voyages. Make and break your pirate’s code on the Sea of Thieves.
  • A treacherous shared world – Plot your course and set sail for hidden riches. Navigate the perils of a fantastical world and the danger of rival crews.

Update: Microsoft has sent notice that the “holiday 2016” release window originally provided in its announcement, and thus this article, is inaccurate. Rather, the company told Gematsu it is not yet announcing a timeframe for the game’s launch.
