Animal Crossing director on potential Wii U entry

"That's difficult for me to answer at the moment!"

A new Animal Crossing game might be in development for Wii U, if we’re reading into comments by series director Hisashi Nogami correctly.

Engadget posted a telephone interview with Nogami today discussing Splatoon, which he produced, and snuck in an Animal Crossing question to close it off:

Engadget: So my very last question then is: When are we going to see Animal Crossing on Wii U?

Nogami: “Well, that’s difficult for me to answer at the moment! Yup. That’s pretty much all we can say.

“What I will say is that you may have seen an announcement recently about an Animal Crossing product coming out on the 3DS… I can tack that on to the end of my response.”

E3 is next month. Nintendo is hosting its own Digital Event, where it will surely have new game announcements. Maybe we’ll hear about something there?
