Rare’s next game “uniquely Rare,” says Xbox boss
A trademark for Battletoads was filed recently.
The next game from Rare will be “uniquely Rare,” Xbox boss Phil Spencer teased.
“Got to play the new @RareLtd game today,” Spencer said on Twitter today. “Rare building a uniquely Rare game, as it should be. Great visit to the studio.”
Rare’s catalog has been tied to Kinect games post-2008. Kinect Sports Rivals launched for Xbox One earlier this year, and Kinect Sports: Season Two and Kinect Sports for Xbox 360 in 2011 and 2010. Its last—arguably ‘Rare’—game was Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for Xbox 360 in 2008.
It’s worth noting a trademark for “Battletoads,” one of Rare’s older franchises, was recently filed by Microsoft in the U.S. Perhaps this “uniquely Rare” game is a Battletoads revival?
