PlayStation 3 super slim announced

500 gigabyte and 250 gigabyte models available soon.

Sony has confirmed the PlayStation 3 super slim during its Tokyo Game Show press conference this morning.

Boasting a ‘complete redesign’ of the internal architecture, the internal volume and weight of the new design has been reduced by more than half compared to the 60 gigabyte PlayStation 3 model, and by 20 and 25 percent compared to the current model. It also uses a new sliding disc cover.

The console will come in both “Charcoal Black” and “Classic White.” (The latter may be Japan-only.) Find its release schedule below:

North America

  • 500GB – $299 – October 30
  • 250B – $269 (bundle only) – September 25

Europe / PAL

  • 500GBB – 299 euros – September 28
  • 12GB Flash Memory – 229 euros – October 12 – consumers who purchase this option can increase the storage space of their console with a dedicated 250GB hard-drive attachment for 89 euros.


  • 500GB – 29,800 yen – October 4
