Under Defeat HD set for North American PS3 release

Rising Star Game localizing latest G.rev shmup.

Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan this past February. Rising Star Games is bringing the shoot ’em up arcade game to North American audiences this fall as a PlayStation 3-exclusive.

Developed by G.rev, Under Defeat is “widely regarded as one of the best-selling and finest shooting games ever made,” according to Rising Star Games. It is set in an alternate universe during a World War-like conflict, and puts players in the boots of a helicopter pilot in a territory divided by the struggle between the Empire and the Union.

Different from the 2005 arcade release, Under Defeat HD adds new features, including “destructive realism,” “improved artwork, textures, and shadowing,” dual stick compatibility, Classic Arcade Mode, a new 16:9 New Order Mode, and practice versions of those modes.

Additionally, all copies of Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition will include a digital art book, all current DLC and patches released in Japan, a soundtrack CD featuring tracks from the New Order mode, and a letter from G.rev CEO and the game’s executive producer HIroyuki Maruyama.

The game will be available at retail and on PlayStation Network when it launches for $39.99 this fall. View a new set of screenshots and the U.S. box art at the gallery.
