Tales of Xillia 2: Nova, new Link Artes systems detailed

Combine artes, be motivated by an 8 year-old.

Following last night’s preliminary leak, [email protected] has gone live with full details on Famitsu’s Tales of Xillia 2 preview this week.

Nova (CV: Satomi Sato) is a new character and former classmate of Julius (our previous article mistakenly listed her as a classmate of Ludger). Game Jouhou, from which we based our previous post, listed her age as 28, however, Sokuho does not mention her age. Nova works at a bank owned by Clanspia company. She is surprised when Ludger appears to manage his debt problem. She had previously been a groupie of Julian. If you’ve seen the first trailer, she is the girl that faints near the beginning (posted above).

Alvin (CV: Tomokazu Sugita), who returns from Tales of Xillia, appears in the sequel running a new business, with which he and his partner Jurgens are currently struggling. He is trying to form better relationships with others.

Leia (CV: Saori Hayami), also returning, is now a reporter for a minor newspaper company on Elenpios. She is trying to find herself, and in the process, her fashion sense has become more mature.

Both Alvin and Leia are playable characters.

Julius (CV: Toru Okawa), Ludger’s brother, is a Clanspia company special combat agent: an elite at the organization. On Ludger’s first day of work, Julius goes missing. He is described as nagging towards Ludger, and will eat almost anything he cooks, especially with tomatoes (his favorite). On good days, he’ll hum the lullaby he used to sing to Ludger as a child. His other brother-like traits include patting Ludger on the head and doing his tie.

Two new battle elements are introduced: “Unique Link Artes” (skills only usable through certain character parings) and “Common Link Artes” (skills usable regardless of which characters are paired). Ludger and Alvin, for example, can combine their Rapid Ranger and Variable Trigger artes to create Mortal Fire.

Elle, the game’s 8 year-old heroine, as previously confirmed, will not participate in battle. However, she will be on the sidelines, cheering on Ludger and company, and will also appear during cut-ins.
