Metal Gear franchise tops 31 million sales

Stealh action series moves big numbers.

Konami’s Metal Gear Solid franchise has surpassed 31.1 million units in worldwide sales, the publisher has announced.

The numbers are as of December 2011’s end.

The series began on MSX2 in 1987 with the original Metal Gear. The most recent releases, Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, debuted late last year and early this year, respectively. A PlatinumGames-developed spin-off, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, is expected later this year.
