Street Fighter X Tekken GEM system detailed

Boost and Assist your character.

Capcom today shared new details on Street Fighter X Tekken‘s GEM system, which adds an extra level of depth by combining customization with strategy.

There are 57 GEMs in Street Fighter X Tekken, 52 being Boost GEMs, 5 being Assist. Players can equip up to three different GEMs per battle, which can improve on a certain characters weaknesses or further heighten their strengths. Each gem type has its own advantages / disadvantages.

Assist GEMs “provide helpful bonuses that are always activated but balanced by handicaps in other areas.” Boost GEMs “provide a stat increase in one of five areas (attack, defense, speed, cross gauge, vitality) but require a specific condition to be met in order to be activated.” A speed Boost GEM, for example, can only be activated after a player blocks 2-3 stringed attacks. Activation conditions for Boost GEMs can not be seen by opponents, adding a special element of surprise to the system.

A full breakdown of the GEM system can be seen at Capcom Unity. Screenshots of the GEM system can be seen at the gallery.

Street Fighter X Tekken is due for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on March 6, 2012.
