Tales of Xillia topped the charts during launch week in Japan, selling over 526,000 copies. It didn’t do so hot during its second week of sales, only moving 47,297 units.
If I were an analyst (which I’m not, but let’s play pretend), I’d assume the game’s low sales are due to the fact that everyone in Japan already owns a copy (that’s right, everyone in Japan). Yes. That must be it. Don’t you dare throw facts at me.
As noted by Hachimaki, past Tales games have followed a similar pattern. Tales of Vesperia on PlayStation 3 sold 265,235 in its first week, and 48,642 in its second; Tales of Graces f moved 254,828, followed by 39,640; Tales of the Abyss 3DS did 84,207 week one, and then 10,034 in week two.
In other news, Wii‘s Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection, which includes the first three Dragon Quest titles, came out as top dog this week, selling 263,398 copies.
