While the Wii U has garnered plenty of positive reception, not everyone is fond of the system. Naughty Dog game director Justin Richmond called the Wii U a “very, very cool” piece of tech, but said that there’s nothing it does that a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita cannot.
Speaking to NowGamer, Richmond said: “To be honest with you, the idea of it is very, very cool. But there’s nothing that the Wii U has that the Vita and PS3 doesn’t. You know, it’s an interesting piece of technology, and I’m interested to see how people use it. I’m not completely sold yet. That the screen isn’t multi-touch, that’s a little weird.
“It seems there are some very strange holes in it, but to be fair, last time I was skeptical of the original Wii, and look at how that did. I’m sure that the games they make for Wii U will be amazing.”
Regardless of Naughty Dog’s thoughts on the system, their position as a Sony studio makes them unable to develop for the platform — even if they wanted to.
