The latest issue of Famitsu provides first details on PlatinumGames‘ upcoming Vanquish. In an interview with game director Shinji Mikai, he reveals the game’s platform and more details about the third-person shooter.
Vanquish is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this Winter, Mikami confirmed. It’s a third-person shooter, but not a “normal” shooter. There’s a lot of fast-paced action in the game and your primary targets are robots rather than humans.
The game is set in the near-future where a war is waging between the United States and Russia. They used a future setting to allow for the use of higher technology. Mikami tells Famitsu that all the enemies are robots because he wants players who aren’t comfortable shooting other humans to play and appreciate the game.
As seen in the trailer, the player sports a high-tech mech suit. This suit features a high-speed booster which will allow you to boost next to enemies and knock them out with a close-range attack. Players can go into cover, but Mikami states the game is definitely not a pure cover shooter.
Players have an assortment of weapons to use, although you cannot pick up additional weapons. All of the players weapons are built into the suit they were and transform for use in real-time.
At its current state, Vanquish is about 80 percent complete. At the moment, they’re working on refining the AI for allies and enemies. Mikami has confirmed a demo is planned, so we’ll be able to get a crack at this before it releases.
