While Visceral Games is hard at work developing the sequel to 2008’s Dead Space, it looks like Dead Space 2 may not be the next game in the franchise we see on high-definition consoles. If recent surveys are to be believed, Dead Space Extraction (originally released on Wii) is on the way to Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network.
The survey says that Dead Space Extraction on high-def consoles will feature the same on-rail “guided first-person experience” that the Wii version offered, but this time in “full HD.” A tentative price of $15 was given in the survey.
Another downloadable, labeled as an extension to the story of Dead Space 2, titled Planet Cracker was listed in the survey as well. The game is described as a “resource strategy game where players will manage a CEC Mining operation,” and would have players trying to maximize their daily profit” and “defending their hard-won ore from Space Pirates.”
Apparently, rewards from Planet Cracker could be transferred into Dead Space 2.
Neither of these two downloadable games can be considered confirmed. But EA probably has something going on involving both. That’s usually how these surveys work.
