PlayStation Network to offer “premium content and services” on a subscription-based model
Sony Computer Entertainment released a file detailing their recent “Media/Investor Conference” today where they detailed their future plans for the PlayStation Network.
What’s first noticed in the slides is that the PlayStation Network is set to provide “new revenue stream from subscription”.
Don’t shit yourself. Sony’s own Kaz Hirai has already replied to this new fact by way of VG247.
“SCE will further increase sales by offering users new entertainment through the combination of hardware, software, peripheral and PlayStation Network,” Hirai said.
“Especially in the online area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services.”
That means you’ll still game online for free, but there’s going to be “premium content and services” you’ll have to pay for on a subscription-based model.
Let’s hope that cross-game chat and some of the other requested PlayStation Network features arrive before then.
