VARLET is a turn-based role-playing video game developed by FuRyu and AQURIA, and published by FuRyu.

■ About

This isn’t a story about finding someone else—it’s about finding yourself.

VARLET is a school-life RPG about self-discovery, experienced through meeting others who struggle with the question of who they truly are, and grow through that very struggle.

■ Story

Kousei Academy: where the protagonist has recently transferred. Whispered rumors surround this place.

“Another world” where strange creatures dwell appears within the school… and once you’ve wandered in, there’s no way back out.

After seeing this other world—“a Glitch”—with his own eyes, the protagonist realizes several people have been replaced with monsters.

You must fight alongside your friends to save the academy from imminent destruction.

As a “Leader” that guides others forward, or as a “Ruler” who believes might makes right.

■ World

Kousei Academy

The first school to implement cross-reality networking, and where the protagonist has recently transferred.
Study here is divided into three courses:

  • The Arts course for musicians, idols, models, actors, and other entertainers.
  • The Advanced course for outstanding students that focuses on R&D, business enterprises, etc.
  • The Gen Ed course for students without any particular specialties.

SSS (Student Support Services)

An informal guild that solves problems around the academy. The members work hard day after day to help students with their issues and requests. Right after being transferred, the protagonist is appointed to the position of “alternate president” by his cousin, standing president Yuri.

Johari

A cross-reality networking service used in specified districts. Employed for communication, information, entertainment, commerce, and more, this software is an indispensable part of Meifu City’s infrastructure. It also features social networking and private messaging functions.

Glitches

Worlds created by the hopes and dreams of each and every person. Existing somewhere between digital augmented reality and the real world, these places are laid out like dungeons. They materialize whenever a human’s need for approval exceeds all reason.

Desires

Creatures that dwell within Glitches. They act only to fulfill the need that created the Glitch in the first place, but if that need becomes too strong, they can run amok. Desires may confine people within a Glitch and then take their place in the real world.

■ SSS (Student Support Services) Characters

Hero (voiced by Shohei Komatsu)

  • Age: 16
  • Birthday: January 6
  • Height: 171cm

Your avatar in this world. A second-year transfer student enrolled in the Gen Ed course, he is persuaded by his cousin to become the alternate president of the Student Support Services soon after arriving. Upon meeting a strange individual in a dream, he gains the power to start a revolution.

Aruka Arisaka (voiced by Minori Suzuki)

  • Affiliation: SSS (Student Support Services)
  • Age: 17
  • Birthday: December 23
  • Height: 179cm

A second-year Arts course student and member of the idol group Merveilleux. Even after gaining countrywide recognition due to an incident that caused her to temporarily leave the limelight, she still feels dissatisfied that all people talk about is her looks and not her work with her group. She also seems to recognize the protagonist, even though he could swear they’ve never met before… For someone who looks so proper, she can be sharp-tongued. Such discrepancies between her appearance and personality have always been a sore spot for her.

Taki Sukina (voiced by Hayato Dojima)

  • Affiliation: SSS (Student Support Services)
  • Age: 16
  • Birthday: January 6
  • Height: 171cm

Having been raised in a strict household, this third-year student maintains top marks in the Advanced course. On the other hand, he yearns to escape from his oppressive environment and uses street art to express himself. While he may be envied for his exceptional abilities, he suffers from his limited freedom.

Sota Kodaki (voiced by Tomohiro Ono)

  • Affiliation: SSS (Student Support Services)
  • Age: 17
  • Birthday: September 26
  • Height: 163cm

A second-year enrolled in the Gen Ed course. He often compares himself to the particularly gifted students of the Advanced and Arts courses. Noa Hatsuse (voiced by Saran Tajima)

  • Affiliation: SSS (Student Support Services)
  • Age: 17
  • Birthday: May 9
  • Height: 160cm

An earnest and direct Gen Ed second-year with a strong sense of justice. Even though she agrees wholeheartedly with the Security Bureau’s charter and fervently follows through with its activities, she still receives an icy welcome from other members for being a lowly Gen Ed student. The fact that her classmates often rely on her has become a driving force in her life—if no one needed her, her existence would have no purpose.

  • Age: 17
  • Birthday: July 15
  • Height: 173cm

He dreads the day when everyone recognizes him for the fraud he believes himself to be.

Ema Noma (voiced by Aoi Koga)

  • Affiliation: SSS (Student Support Services)
  • Age: 16
  • Birthday: September 13
  • Height: 152cm

An inconspicuous first-year student enrolled in the Gen Ed course. Due to her family’s humble circumstances, she works a part-time job every night. She has no confidence that anything she does will ever work out right and often wishes she could be someone else.
