Rumor: Canceled Mass Effect: Universe trailer leaked
"In-engine footage using pre-production assets."
A trailer for the cancelled next entry in the Mass Effect series has seemingly leaked online.
Yesterday, Electronic Arts announced it will close Mass Effect series developer BioWare and cancel the next Mass Effect game, which was in “early development.”
The new Mass Effect game was first announced in November 2020, with a teaser trailer debuting at The Game Awards 2020 that December. In November 2025, BioWare assured, “the next Mass Effect game is in development, and [Electronic Arts] and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.”
After Electronic Arts announced plans to close BioWare and cancel the game, an alleged Electronic Arts employee posted on Reddit that a trailer for the new Mass Effect had been ready for “a few months,” which was corroborated by IGN.
Today, a trailer was posted by a separate Reddit “burner account,” revealing what it claims is in-engine footage using pre-production assets, and the official title Mass Effect: Universe.
While Electronic Arts has not confirmed or denied the trailer’s authenticity, a tweet from The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley seems to suggest it is genuine.
