Dark cosmic fantasy strategy RPG Myths from the Maw announced for PC
Kickstarter campaign set to launch in 2027.
Dwerve developer Half Human Games has announced Myths from the Maw, a dark cosmic fantasy strategy RPG where sin corrupts your heroes as you descend into an otherworldly abyss. It will be available for PC via Steam, with a Kickstarter campaign planned to launch in 2027.
“Myths from the Maw is basically our love letter to Dante’s Inferno,” said Half Human Games founder Percy Legendre IV in the press release. “We really wanted to make a game where you test your own morality at every turn,” says Half Human Games founder Percy Legendre IV. “In the Maw, every choice costs something, and you carry it with you. Honestly, that’s been the most fun part of building this whole thing.”
Here is an overview of the game, via Half Human Games:
About
Myths from the Maw is a dark cosmic fantasy tactical RPG where sin corrupts your heroes as you descend into an otherworldly abyss to battle rival warbands, unfathomable terrors, and corruption itself.
Lead a band of mercenaries on perilous expeditions into the Maw, a colossal spacefallen fortress. Battle rival warbands and eldritch horrors, sacrificing blood to alien gods for the power to prevail. The grotesque corridors reek of temptation and desperation. Every mercenary makes tough choices that corrupt their soul, and the sins they carry shape who they become.
Mercenaries accumulate corruption points both on and off the battlefield when sacrificing blood, killing foes, making certain decisions, or failing certain checks. High corruption manifests sinful traits that change your mercenaries’ behaviors in narrative events, campfire actions, and on the battlefield: hopeless mercenaries flee from fights while gluttonous ones auto-consume supplies.
Myths from the Maw‘s turn-based battles are brutally tactical. Each skill has its own intricate AOE pattern. Position carefully to avoid danger while striking multiple foes. Use move-attacks like Dashing Slash or Leaping Smash to reposition and catch enemies off-guard. Knockback, pull, and immobilize foes to control the battlefield and line up devastating AOE strikes.
Key Features
- Battle rival warbands in tactical turn-based skirmishes, where attack patterns, status conditions, knockbacks, and immobilization determine life or perma-death.
- Manage corruption from blood sacrifice, narrative choices, and battlefield consequences. Be wary, lest your mercenaries succumb to sinful traits.
- Sinful traits sow turmoil: greedy mercenaries steal, prideful ones disobey. Sinners may thwart an expedition, or worse, forsake you to join the Cult of the Maw.
- Sacrifice blood to a pantheon of alien demon-gods in exchange for Bloodmarks that empower your mercenaries, a bargain that corrupts their very souls.
- Theorycraft builds from 12 races and 20 classes, such as Shadow Knight, Sword Dancer, and Witch Hunter, with vast equipment-driven customization.
- Roguelike features include meaningful permadeath, procedural dungeons, and a wealth of randomized loot and abilities for immense replayability.
