Zenless Zone Zero version 3.0 update ‘A Sleepwalker’s Confession’ launches June 17 alongside Steam version
Sky island Roscaelifer debuts.
The version 3.0 update for Zenless Zone Zero, dubbed “A Sleepwalker’s Confession,” will launch on June 17 alongside the game’s Steam version, developer miHoYo announced.
Here is an overview of the update, via miHoYo:
Marking the start of Season 3, the mysterious sky island of Roscaelifer will open its doors for the first time. S-Rank Wind attribute Anomaly Agent Velina and S-Rank Fire attribute Stun Agent Norma will debut consecutively, while the Phaethon faction Agent Pyrois and 1,600 Polychromes will be gifted to all Proxies as special Season 3 launch rewards. Additionally, Zenless Zone Zero will officially launch on Steam on June 17, with cross-platform data sharing supported.
In Version 3.0’s main storyline, to treat a mysterious Ether energy that has once again spiraled out of control within their body, the Proxies are invited by the Mayor of New Eridu to the enigmatic restricted zone—Roscaelifer. Guided by Velina, Administrative Director of the External Strategy Department (ESD), the Proxies arrive at the main island as special transfer students and gradually uncover the secret behind a mysterious power known as Pyrois hidden within them. Meanwhile, controversy surrounding the ESD’s Bangboo chips continues to escalate across Roscaelifer. A string of Bangboo self-destruction incidents has raised widespread alarm, anomalous fluctuations have emerged within the Energy Hub’s Hollows, and the silhouette of first-generation Void Hunter Remielle Dan flickers once more in this sky city, all while a new crisis quietly takes shape.
As the Administrative Director of the ESD, S-Rank Wind-attribute Anomaly Agent Velina is the first Wind attribute Agent in Zenless Zone Zero. She can accumulate Wind Anomaly buildup on enemies, causing them to enter the Windswept state. When Windswept and another Attribute Anomaly are simultaneously applied to a target, a unique Vortex effect is triggered, dealing AoE damage of the other corresponding attribute to surrounding enemies. When the team includes two or more Anomaly Agents or Agents of the same attribute, Velina’s Windswept and Vortex damage will significantly increase. As more Agents join in future versions, her potential will continue to expand. S-Rank Fire attribute Stun Agent Norma is the ESD’s Chief Technician and a core member of the Marcel Group’s technological center. Her combat mechanic revolves around her signature hat, which continuously accumulates Preheated Chamber regardless of whether Norma is on or off the field. With sufficient resources, she can convert teammates’ Quick Assists into Chain Attacks, creating additional Chain Attack opportunities for the entire squad. Agent Ye Shunguang and Sunna will also return alongside their respective exclusive W-Engines.
Version 3.0 also introduces new exploration experiences. Roscaelifer is home to numerous distinctive landmarks: Roarin’ Brekkies offers a daily random cookie, while the Spotlight Theater tucked deep in an alleyway stages performances featuring Bangboo in every role. A mysterious sky bus also awaits in the city, with a hidden route that can be unlocked when summoned at a specific time. Additionally, Proxies will gain citywide access to the Universal Terminal—taking control of surveillance cameras for first-person reconnaissance and scanning, and piloting a drone alongside Eous for targeted operations. Within the Scamall Hollow, Proxies can ride the Aerial Transit at high speed using Pyrois’s spatial movement abilities. Should a Singularity Leakage be encountered and Proxies become caught in an overlapping dimension, the state of the environment and mechanisms will change unpredictably. In these cases, Pyrois’ power is key to resolving the anomaly. The new collection system, Interboo, will record every discovery Proxies make across the island, converting exploration progress into Polychromes and other generous rewards.
Regarding activities, Version 3.0 introduces the new permanent gameplay mode “Bangbang! The Genius and the Miracle Chip,” in which Proxies can nurture and command Collaboorator squads to repair the Central Computing Hub and complete chip research missions. Annihilation Simulacrum launches as a new permanent battle mode centered on high-difficulty Boss challenges with no elemental weaknesses or resistances, placing full emphasis on mechanical understanding and precise execution. A series of limited-time events will also open subsequently—completing these events yields a Tuning Calibrator, W-Engine, Polychromes, title, and other rewards, along with new Drive Disc sets. Velina’s limited outfit Shade of Leisure will also go on sale following the version update.
For system optimizations, Version 3.0 introduces the Drive Disc Smart discard function that enables batch processing of unwanted Drive Discs in a single action, significantly improving inventory management efficiency. The Drive Disc Tuning interface will now prioritize compatible sets from active training plans. Starting from Version 3.0, protagonist outfit accessories—headwear, hair accessories, earrings, and glasses—will be separated into universal items freely mixable across all outfits. On the PC platform, a comprehensive visual upgrade is also incoming: players with compatible hardware can enable real-time global illumination powered by ray-tracing technology, supported by DLSS Super-Resolution and Frame Generation to maintain visual quality alongside smoother performance.
For rewards, the Advance Screening feature allows Proxies to jump directly into the Season 3 storyline. The Phaethon faction Agent Pyrois, along with a Season 3-themed Proxy outfits, will be gifted to all Proxies as special Season 3 launch rewards—simply progress through the Version 3.0 main storyline to obtain them. In the coming versions, all of Pyrois’ Mindscapes and their exclusive W-Engine will also be gifted for free. Proxies will additionally receive a total of 1,600 Polychromes: 600 available upon logging in on the version launch day, and the remaining 1,000 on July 4—the second anniversary of Zenless Zone Zero‘s official launch.
Zenless Zone Zero is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC via client download and Epic Games Store, iOS via App Store, and Android via Google Play.
