Publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward have released new information and screenshots detailing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4‘s extraction shooter mode “DMZ.”
DMZ combines story-driven missions, side operations, looting and crafting systems, a player-driven Bounty system, and a “deep” progression system, all built for replayability.
Here is an overview of the mode in brief, via Activision:
- DMZ is the definitive Call of Duty extraction experience: a living combat sandbox where every deployment is a new story.
- Set across a large-scale conflict zone, DMZ is built both for structured missions and emergent gameplay, where players can loot, fight, negotiate, betray, and extract with whatever they can carry.
- Deploy solo or with a squad into a volatile living combat zone as off-the-books assets tasked with recovering advanced military technology left in the wake of war.
- DMZ returns transformed from its Beta, building on that foundation to deliver a deeper, more complete extraction experience shaped by player feedback and new systems.
- With a living world, the conditions in the exclusion zone are always shifting, with changing weather, dynamic military objectives, and hostile forces moving throughout the zone.
- Designed around exploration, environmental storytelling and high-risk operations, players can choose to deploy into narrative driven Story Missions, Dynamic Operations with multi-step objectives or Free Roam for open ended exploration, all within in a shared world where PvP and PvE coexist.
- Build and upgrade your Forward Operating Base, a central staging ground and social hub with key features including the 3D Printer. crafting station, The Stash where persistent inventory for looting and crafting can be stored, and the Bounty Board.
- DMZ features a dedicated progression system built around DMZ rank, Traits and upgrading your Forward Operating Base.
- Enemy AI combatants are active and unpredictable, opening the door to new forms of emergent gameplay within an immersive, living world shaped by player-driven encounters.
- For players who thrive on competition, DMZ’s Bounty Board turns every engagement with rival Operators into a risk-versus-reward decision.
