Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero coming to Switch 2 on February 17
A free upgrade from the Switch versions.
Unknown Worlds Entertainment will release Subnautica – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Subnautica: Below Zero – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on February 17, the developer announced. Users who already own the Switch versions can upgrade to the Switch 2 versions via their free “Upgrade Pack.”
Both titles will feature graphical improvements on Switch 2. Each game runs at 1440p resolution when docked, and 1080p resolution in handheld mode. Both modes support a stable 60 frames per second, promising “more responsive controls, enhanced immersion, and a more fluid underwater experience.” The Switch 2 versions also feature optimized controls for the Joy-Con 2 controllers, enabling “more precise movement, smoother exploration, and refined interaction.”
“What has always made Subnautica special is the community around it, from the stories players share to the discoveries they make and the sense of wonder that comes from exploring an unknown world together,” said Unknown Worlds producer Michael Verrette in a press release. “Bringing Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero to Nintendo Switch 2 is about welcoming new players into that community, while giving longtime fans a chance to experience these worlds again in a way that feels fresh, smooth, and more immersive.”
Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero are currently for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. iOS and Android versions of Subnautica are also available for iOS and Android, and will be available for Subnautica: Below Zero on March 10.
