“Book Burn” allows Mel to breathe fire, burning inedible, thorny obstacles to clear a path or lighting up dark stages like a torch.
—By burning away thorns, you can move forward even through blocked areas.
In the book world “Spider Kingdom,” which is overgrown with thread, there are many things that appear burnable. In narrow stages where movement is difficult, you can burn the thread in the background to create escape routes and maneuver more effectively.
However, because of its power, using Book Burn requires “Scraps of Paper” that can be obtained within the book worlds, so be careful not to run out.
—Try burning the background and enemies!
—What happens if you use Book Burn on a character with a candle tail…?
■ Mel’s Ability: “Paper Fly”
“Paper Fly” allows Mel to lift and float objects, enabling you to cross gaps and leap over obstacles Mel cannot eat.
—Mel catches Mono with a firm gasp! You can even cross large gaps.
In the book world “Unfinished Canvas,” which is covered in vibrant paint, there are many dangerous obstacles that Mel cannot destroy, such as thorn-covered floors.
That’s when “Paper Fly” comes in handy!
The clown-like enemies that appear in this world transform the paint-covered floors into thorns. Avoid the thorns using Paper Fly, and confront the enemies that appear throughout the stage.
—Pay attention to the color shown in the clown’s speech bubble, and watch to see how the floor changes afterward…?
■ Mono’s Ability: “Retouch”
With Mono’s new ability, “Retouch,” you can beautifully restore objects and parts of the world that have crumbled into a mess.
—Even a messy drawing on the wall can become a door with Retouch.
When you encounter collapsed areas that block your path, use Mono’s “Retouch” to repair the world and move forward!
■ Which Abilities You Can Use Depend on Your Size!?
The more Mel eats, the more power he regains, and the bigger and more ferocious he becomes.
While being bigger allows him to eat a wider range of things, if Mel becomes too large, he will no longer be able to use some of the abilities available to his smaller, normal-sized form.
—If Mel gets too big, he can still use Book Burn, but he cannot use Paper Fly.
Furthermore, if Mel continues eating paper, he will transform into a wild, four-legged beast!
In this state, his power reaches its maximum. However, he cannot use any abilities other than eating paper, nor understand Mono’s words, and moves around uncontrollably.
If this happens, your only choice is to “Redo” before Mono’s steadily decreasing stamina runs out.
Carefully consider which form of Mel is best for the situation as you progress through the picture book worlds.
—In this form, attacks are nothing to be afraid of!
