Switch 2 My Nintendo Store lottery applications surpass 2.2 million in Japan
"This number significantly exceeded our expectations," Nintendo president Furukawa says.
Over 2.2 million people in Japan alone have submitted applications for the My Nintendo Store Switch 2 pre-order lottery, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in a tweet.
“This number significantly exceeded our expectations, and even further exceeds the amount of Nintendo Switch 2 units we will be able to deliver via My Nintendo Store on June 5,” Furukawa said. “That being said, we unfortunately anticipate a considerable number of customers will not be chosen when the lottery winners are announced tomorrow, April 24.”
Those who are not selected in the first lottery draw will automatically be entered into the second lottery draw, but that even with a second draw, Nintendo will not be able to accommodate every application.
Furukawa added that Nintendo plans to strengthen its production system in order to meet this unexpected demand.
It should be noted that My Nintendo Store is just one retailer. On April 24, pre-orders and lottery sales for Switch 2 will also open nationwide at other Japanese retailers.
