Sony Interactive Entertainment will release a next-generation virtual reality system for PlayStation 5, the company announced.
“Today, I’m pleased to share that our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience with more dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity,” Sony Interactive Entertainment senior vice president of platform planning and management Hideaki Nishino said in a PlayStation Blog post. “Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.”
The new virtual reality system promises to enhance “everything from resolution and field of view, to tracking and input,” as well as connect to PlayStation 5 with a single cord to simplify setup and improve ease-of-use, while enabling a “high-fidelity visual experience.”
The new virtual reality system controller will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, as well as “great ergonomics.”
While a specific release date was not announced, Sony Interactive Entertainment did confirm that it will not be launching in 2021.
