Needy Girl Overdose delayed to “end of spring,” latest details

More time needed "to make Ame-chan even cuter."

Needy Girl Overdose

Publisher and developer Why So Serious? and developer Xemono have delayed point-and-click adventure game Needy Girl Overdose from its previously planned winter 2021 release window to “end of spring 2021” to accommodate various improvements and adjustments. It will be available for PC via Steam with English, Japanese, and Chinese language options.

Get the latest details below.

■ Reason for the Delay

In this game, you’ll take on the role of “P-chan,” acting as both lover and producer for online streaming idol “Ame-chan.” Ame-chan, a bit of a hot mess of a girl with a desperate need for approval, will take your advice as she embarks on her career as an online idol. She’s cute, she’s selfish, and she’s a little bit messed up… and it’s up to you to turn her into a top-tier streamer!

At Indie Live Expo II, the release date was announced as “2021, while it’s still cold,” but as development progressed and we found ourselves coming up with more and more interesting ideas and a desire to make Ame-chan even cuter for our players, we ended up unable to make it on time. We’re really sorry for the delay! We are currently hard at work streamlining and improving the game, and we are happy to announce that the game is now scheduled for an “end of spring 2021” release, so please be sure to add Needy Girl Overdose to your Steam Wishlists.

■ Meet Ame-chan and OMGkawaiiAngel-chan

Needy Girl Overdose is an adventure game in which you take on the incredibly iffy task of fostering a young girl with an unhealthy need for approval and an even unhealthier internet obsession.

Needy Girl Overdose

She’ll start out getting few comments and even less followers, but under your direction and guidance she can amass more and more devoted listeners / obsessed fans, turning her into a super-popular streamer—and thus allowing you to squeeze stupid amounts of cash out of her donation-happy otaku followers.
Our Super-Mega-Cute Heroine

Ame-chan

While she may look somewhat low-key and quiet, she’s actually a ridiculously selfish and vapid girl with a tendency to get carried away and a desperate need for approval. She’s, well… kind of a garbage person. Likes: Her S.O. / producer, “P-chan”; psychotropics.

OMGkawaiiAngel-chan

An “internet angel.” Ame-chan’s alter ego, used while streaming. Pretends to be really nice and sweet. Constantly flirts with otaku types.

■ Gameplay Systems

Play as her beloved “P-chan”—she’ll listen to any orders you give*

The player takes on the role of “P-chan,” producer / lover of our kinda messed-up, slightly overdose-y heroine. Give her orders throughout her daily life and foster her into a top-tier streamer.

Orders are selected and given via specific icons/windows displayed on your in-game PC screen.

*While she will technically “listen” to your orders, she’ll sometimes refuse to obey on account of her mood or some other mysterious reason.

Her various activities will increase and decrease her different parameters, which will in turn affect the ending you reach.

Managing the mental health of a girl so needy for approval is pretty tough. However, get her too healthy, and she might lose her need for approval, possibly ending the game.

So, does this game have a “happy ending”?

The results of her daily activities can be seen not only in her parameters, but in her public and private social media accounts as well. Reading through all of her tweets and developing some pretty conflicting feelings about the whole thing is actually sort of one of the objects of the game.

As her “P-chan,” you can take Ame-chan out on dates. Take her to the kind of date spots that would look really good in photos, or that would tickle the fancy of her otaku followers, and post some real “Ame-chan-ish” photos on social media.

The game features multiple endings, and for a wide range of reasons you’ll get to witness Ame-chan delving deeper into messed-up-ed-ness, causing mental and physical distress for P-chan, and basically just straight-up zooming off into the cosmos. Do happy endings even exist for a girl so screwed up and addicted to modern-day internet culture? You’ll have to see for yourself.
