“Allow me to help you with that repayment.”

Before the broken man appeared a softhearted samurai, who volunteered to help earn money somehow….

The pine tree shines at night. It is the gate to another world. In order to rescue the blacksmith’s daughter, the samurai will journey into a forbidden land…

■ Game Overview

Swordplay Hack and Slash + Automatically-Generated Dungeons

In Katanakami, you can enjoy hack and slash-style gameplay while exploring dungeons in search of a famous sword with the deep offense and defense-based swordplay action of Way of the Samurai. Since your actions are drastically altered by the katana and type of weapon you have equipped, you can experience various styles of combat. The dungeon that you can enter at night is a Japanese-style fantasy world depicted in an isometric view, where the evil spirits of rivers and mountains run rampant. It is an automatically-generated dungeon whose layout changes each time you enter, offering a fresh feeling no matter how many times you play.

Manipulate the Three Influences Based Around the Mountain Pass, and Manage Your Swordsmith

The player will manage a swordsmith by building and selling katanas and weapons from the materials gathered in the dungeon. The game features an “If War Occurs, the Blacksmith Profits” system where inciting conflict upon the three influences (the Akadama Clan, the Kurou Family, and the Post Town) based around the mountain will create a situation where they will require a large amount of katanas to be forged. Increase your order amount to make more money in order to run a thriving business.

Game Mode Changes via Day-Night Cycle

In Katanakami, there is a day-night cycle, and what you can do during the day is different than what you can do during the night. At night, you will enter the other world from the pine tree and gather katanas and materials in the dungeon, while during the day you will earn money as a blacksmith on the mountain pass. With the goal of paying back the debt to rescue the blacksmith’s daughter, the game will progress in this day-night cycle.

Katanakami is due out for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam in early 2020 in Japan.
