The images, which appear to be of box art and / or promotional artwork printing for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, were allegedly first posted on a Snapchat profile before being removed. On the main artwork, several previously unannounced characters appear, including:
- Shadow the Hedgehog (from Sonic the Hedgehog)
- Banjo-Kazooie (from Banjo-Kazooie)
- Isaac (from Golden Sun)
- Ken (from Street Fighter)
- Mach Rider (from Mach Rider)
- Geno (from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)
- Chorus Kids (from Rhythm Heaven)
There is also previously unseen artwork of an empty battlefield.
Users were able to decode a blacked-out name on the images, which led to the LinkedIn profile of an account manager at French printing company Les Ateliers Marina, whose clients include Bandai Namco, which is the developer of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Additionally, a 4chan post on September 28 claiming to be a leak mentioned these exact characters, while also mentioning that Shadow and Ken are Echo fighters, and that several characters such as Ray 01 (from Custom Robo), Monster Hunter (from Monster Hunter), and Dixie Kong (from Donkey Kong) were cut, and that Tabuu (from Super Smash Bros. Brawl), Necrozma (from Pokemon), Crazy Hand (from Super Smash Bros. Melee), and Master Hand (from the original Super Smash Bros.) are boss characters.
It should be noted that CoroCoro previously reported Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would have 108 total stages. Only 103 stages have been revealed. If Shadow and Ken are Echo fighters, that would mean that only five of the new fighters are entirely new, which lines up with the number of stages left to be revealed (one stage per character).
Of course, this is only a rumor, so be sure to take everything as unconfirmed for now.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is due out for Switch on December 7.
