Wii Shop Channel to end service on January 31, 2019

Re-downloads to remain, but will shut down in the future.

Wii Shop Channel

Nintendo will shut down the Wii Shop Channel for the original Wii on January 31, 2019 at 14:59 JST, the company announced.

Users will no longer be able to add Wii Points to their account starting on March 27, 2018 at 04:59 JST.

Nintendo noted that users will still be able to re-download already purchased WiiWare and Virtual Console titles, as well as use the “Wii System Transfer” transfer tool to move content from Wii to Wii U, but that these services will also be shut down at some point in the future. After that, WiiWare and Virtual Console titles will still be playable as long as they are not erased from the Wii or Wii U unit.
