Switch online service to cost 2,000 to 3,000 yen annually
Yearly fee make it easier to support online features, says Nintendo.
The paid online service for Nintendo Switch will cost about 2,000 to 3,000 yen per year, which estimates to between $17.50 and $26.50, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima told Nikkei.
As previously announced, the online service—which includes access to online gameplay, online lobby and voice chat, a monthly game download, and exclusive deals in addition to free services such as the Nintendo eShop, friends management, screenshot sharing, and parental controls—will offer a free trial through fall 2017, after which the annual payments will kick into effect.
According to Kimishima, the yearly fee makes it easier for Nintendo to support online features such as multiplayer and classic game downloads.
Kimishima added that Nintendo is currently studying virtueal reality and will add it to Switch when Nintendo figures out how to users can play for hours without problems.
