Total sales for the Yo-kai Watch video game series (including download sales) have topped seven million, publisher and developer Level-5 announced.
The game series consists of the original Yo-kai Watch and a three-version sequel released last year. Yo-kai Watch 3 is set to be formally announced at Level-5 Vision 2015 next month.
The franchise, which first began in July 2013, has gone from video games to anime, toys, books, and movies. The “Yo-kai Medal” toys associated with the franchise have shipped 200 million as of the end of March. Yo-kai Watch books have shipped 10 million, and the Yo-kai Watch movie has earned more than 7.6 billion yen ($63 million USD) at the box office.
Yo-kai Watch is currently Japan-only, but its western expansion is in progress.
