Lightning Returns ’13 Days’ trailer, screenshots

Become the one chosen to rescue lost souls.

As Comic-Con in San Diego begins, Square Enix has debuted a new trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII called “13 Days.”

Additionally, a new set of screenshots reveal more information about Yusnaan, the city of revelry, including the “Slaughterhouse,” an arena where brutal fighting tournaments are held every night. You’ll also see the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn cross-over outfit for Lightning from the Miqo’te racing, featuring the signature skirt, cat ears, and tail.

Square Enix also shared new battle system details. In some battles, you can destroy sections of an enemy, and if you succeed in disabling a specific area, the enemy will be weakened and you’ll gain different items as a reward when the battle is won. A new counter-attack system will also allow you to negate enemy attacks and land a critical hit that could stagger your foe if the counter is timed right. However, it uses up a large portion of the ATB gauge and is only effective against physical attacks.
