Nintendo has released a new information video and set of screenshots for New Super Mario Bros. 2.
The clip details New Super Mario Bros. 2‘s emphasis on coins, and the “all-new ways” of collecting them. Jump through a gold ring, and all your enemies will turn to gold. The new “Coin Block” attaches a golden block to Mario’s head; the faster he runs, the more coins he will obtain. “Gold Mario” can through gold fireballs that turn blocks into coins.
A new gameplay mode called “Coin Rush” will allow up to two players to play three randomly selected courses back to back, collecting as many coins as possible. To come out on top, you’ll need to finish the level in a timely manner and collect the most coins. Your remaining time will be converted to coins. You can then save your record and share it with other players via StreePass, which can be challenged by other players.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will launch for 3DS on August 19 in North America and on August 17 in Europe.
