Is it just me? Or is 2012 the year of significant anniversaries? Resident Evil is 15, Mega Man is 25, Street Fighter is 25, Ace Attorney is 10, Kingdom Hearts is 10, Final Fantasy is 25, and one of the latter series’ most significant releases, Final Fantasy VII, is 15.
The Yoshinori Kitase-directed, Tetsuya Nomura-designed (characters) RPG was released in Japan on January 31, 1997. It debuted in North America eight months later, on September 7, and in Europe on November 17.
In 2004, the “Compilation” of Final Fantasy VII began with Before Crisis for mobile phones, and continued with 2005’s CG movie Advent Children, 2006’s PS2 release Dirge of Cerberus, and 2007’s PSP release Crisis Core. After Advent Children, an anime movie, Last Order, was released, as well.
Now, in 2012, what’s next for Final Fantasy VII? Will Square Enix ever pursue the remake so oft-requested not too long ago? Or will the compilation lay to rest? What are your most remembered moments of the original release?
