■ About
NC’s new anime game, Astrae Oratio (developed by Dynamis One), is a *shindenki magic RPG set in a fictionalized ’89 Tokyo. In a world where reality and magic coexist, players take on the role of a “Shunin,” a public official from the Special District Office (the agency responsible for the administration of magic users), as they encounter various characters and incidents throughout the city.
The goal of Astrae Oratio is to bring story, art, and gameplay together as a single experience. The story unfolds as it follows the daily lives of magicians as they encounter incidents lurking beneath the surface. Players will engage with the world and characters in various ways, such as taking direct control of uniquely distinct magicians during combat based on certain situations.
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, the game will highlight its narrative and combat systems. Players can explore the game’s atmosphere and the magicans’ daily lives through the Prologue and the “Minato Arc” storyline, while hands-on training content will introduce basic combat mechanics and the varied fighting styles of magicians operating across Tokyo.
*Shindenki (新伝奇): A subgenre of urban fantasy in which supernatural and extraordinary elements such as magic are combined with the everyday spaces that exist in reality.

■ Tokyo Game Show 2026 Demo
A Shindenki RPG capturing the daily life and hidden mysteries of ’89 Tokyo
Astrae Oratio is set in a fictional timeline of ’89 Tokyo and depicts a mysterious world that exists beneath the surface of ordinary daily life. At Tokyo Game Show 2026, players will experience how the city’s everyday life coexists with the special world of magicians through the Prologue and the Minato Arc storyline.
In the Prologue, a story unfolds in which the magicians of Minato face off against Kujo Yuria, a magician from Kyoto. The character dialogue and story presentation flow naturally into actual combat, and players can learn the basic controls and combat system through the tutorial. After completing the Prologue, players can select and play either Story or Training mode from the Minato Arc lobby screen.
In Story mode, players can experience roughly 5 minutes and 30 seconds of narrative set in Minato, one of Tokyo’s many districts. Centered on the monologue of “Tanaka Erin,” member of the “Magical Activities of the Minato Girls” group, this segment reveals the ordinary daily lives of magicians.
Amid a setting filled with cherry blossom-lined streets, the colors of spring, and everyday scenery throughout the city, it captures the sense of the season in Minato and the surroundings in which magicians live. Character illustrations and various story scenes are meticulously detailed with electronic devices and everyday items that evoke the era, naturally expressing the fictional ’89 Tokyo setting.
The Minato Arc storyline builds emotional depth in the first half through Tanaka Erin’s opening monologue and depictions of daily life, then brings the story to a close with a visual novel presentation delivered through artwork, text and an audio track featuring vocals.
Real-Time Turn-Based Combat: Read Enemy Actions and Plan Your Response
Astrae Oratio‘s combat is a turn-based system in which attacks are exchanged in a set order, but it combines this with real-time combat in which players must check what action the enemy will take next and respond immediately. Players are not limited to simply deciding their own attack order; they must check the enemy’s next action and then respond accordingly, either by selecting a matching skill or by using a “tag” to swap characters.
In the Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo build, players learn basic combat rules step by step through training scenarios. They can review various pieces of information, including how to respond to enemy actions, the types of skills available, and each character’s unique “Declaration of Dominion” effect.
A single round of Astrae Oratio‘s combat consists of an “action phase” and an “engage phase.” In the action phase, players select their allies’ actions in response to the action the enemy is preparing. Once action selection is complete, the game moves to the engage phase. If the player has chosen an appropriate response, they win the engage and carry out the selected action as planned.
If the enemy is preparing a “normal action” indicated in blue, the player can win the clash by using any △Normal Skill, △Combat Skill, or △Ultimate Skill.
Before selecting an ally’s action, the enemy may sometimes launch a sudden preemptive attack. In this case, it is indicated in yellow, and players can respond by using a correctly timed counter skill. If the counter attack succeeds, an additional action becomes possible.
There are also “unstoppable actions” that cannot be overcome in a clash by any skill. When an enemy action indicated in red appears, players must prepare a response for after it activates. Certain attacks may also require a matching character’s skill or a “tag” character swap.
The core fun of Astrae Oratio‘s combat lies in predicting enemy actions, devising a strategy, and having it pay off in battle.
Most notably, players can use tags during combat to chain multiple characters’ attacks in succession. Setting the next character to act swaps them in for the currently attacking character after their attack ends. Tags must be used with consideration for the enemy’s actions and the existing attack order.
Winning a clash charges the “Dominion Gauge.” When the Dominion Gauge is full, the character currently in combat can trigger “Declaration of Dominion.” Activating Declaration of Dominion applies a Dominion effect unique to each character across a set number of rounds. Players can strategically choose which character’s Declaration of Dominion effect to deploy based on elemental affinities and tactical requirements.
Experience the Unique Combat Styles of Magicians Across Tokyo
In the Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo, players can meet 12 magicians belonging to four clans that are active in various parts of Tokyo, as revealed on the official channel: △Minato’s Magical Activities of the Minato Girls; △Chuo’s Seiran Fellowship; △Shinjuku’s Akina Urban Legend Research Institute; and △Bunkyo’s Rose of Bunkyo.
Each character offers a different narrative, presentation, and combat style. For example, Keikou Mayoi of the Seiran Fellowship comes from an elite business family. Fitting her backstory, she uses magic powered by expensive gemstones.
Haibara Nono of the group Rose of Bunkyo serves as both a local vigilante protecting Bunkyo and an associate nurse at a hospital care facility. Her character design reflects her backstory through her nurse outfit, medical kit, and weary facial expression.
