Bokosuka Wars II is a strategy role-playing video game developed and published by Pygmy Studio.
About
Bokosuka Wars was a game developed by Rasho for the X1 computer in 1983.
The following year, 1984, it won the Grand Prix at the 1st ASCII Software Contest.
On December 14 1985, the Famicom version was also released.
It is considered one of the origins of the widely popular “simulation RPG” genre.
A truly legendary game, having quickly incorporated numerous elements that would lead to modern simulation RPGs, such as:
- The existence of a leader whose defeat results in a game over.
- Character compatibility.
- Growth and promotion through repeated battles.
How to Play Bokosuka Wars
Bokosuka Wars II is a military simulation RPG where you play as the King of Slen, leading your allies to defeat the tyrannical King Ogres.
- Gather Allies
- During your adventure, you’ll find captured soldiers and knights of the Kingdom of Slen scattered throughout the land.
- Rescue them to expand your army and build a powerful force.
- Furthermore, soldiers from countries other than the Kingdom of Sleng may join your ranks.
- Command Two Armies
- The player can control not only the King of Slen but also soldiers, knights, and even the entire army, switching between them as needed.
- Since the allies act autonomously, maintaining formation while advancing is crucial.
- Using the “Military Council Table” you can change formations according to the situation and gain advantage in battle.
- Fight the Enemy
- Combat occurs when your forces and the enemy come into contact.
- Character abilities, compatibility, and luck all influence the outcome.
- Rather than recklessly challenging strong enemies, deploying the right units is the path to victory.
- Develop Your Characters
- Characters who win battles grow stronger.
- Upon meeting certain conditions, characters can be promoted to “Silver Soldier,” “Heavy Soldier,” “Heavy Knight” and “General,” significantly increasing their combat power.
- You may also obtain weapons and shields by defeating enemies.
- Equipment changes character abilities and also affects the outcome of the “adjacent combat” which occurs when characters are adjacent to each other.
- Fight Alongside Heroes
- In two-player cooperative, Player 2 controls a Hero to support King Slen’s army.
- Heroes possess a special ability to discern the strength of all characters by seeing into their souls and associating them with animals, such as “Lion” or “Rat.”
- Defeat King Ogres
- After overcoming numerous enemy forces, your arch-nemesis King Ogres awaits.
- Lead your trained army into the final battle.
Tips for Victory
- Rescue as many allies as possible
- Don’t lose your trained characters
- Be mindful of character compatibility
- Protect King Slen
- Use the Hero’s abilities
If King Slen is defeated, it’s game over.
Lead your army, making the most of your limited forces, and aim for the castle where King Ogres awaits.
