Gematsu Community Games of the Year 2015

Hello, Gematsu community! Community mod and vote-tallier Zero here.

The platform votes for the 2015 Gematsu community Games of the Year have been tallied up! We have definitive winners for each platform, and some were extremely close. I’m happy to say we had well over 1,000 votes in each category. Thank you so much for voting!

Without further ado, it’s time to announce the winners selected by you, the Gematsu community!

The Wii U Gematsu community Game of the Year is…

Xenoblade Chronicles X!

Gematsu Community Games of the Year 2015

The runner-up is Splatoon.

With 900 plus votes, the competition was left in the dust. Although, I think its tough for kids (squids?) to catch up with Skells that can fly and transform into different types of vehicles. Congratulations, Monolith Soft!

Here’s how you voted:

  • Xenoblade Chronicles X (Nintendo, Monolith Soft) – 926 votes
  • Splatoon (Nintendo, EAD Group No. 2) – 445 votes
  • Super Mario Maker (Nintendo, EAD Group No. 4) – 193 votes
  • Yoshi’s Wolly World (Nintendo, Good-Feel) – 81 votes

Next up is the 3DS. The voting was much tighter here. Although we have a clear winner, the runner up was separated by a mere 21 votes!

The 3DS Gematsu community Game of the Year is…

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate!

Gematsu Community Games of the Year 2015

The runner-up is The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D.

The nominees but up a tough fight, but in the end Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate took the crown. I hope this brings some clarity to the popular question, “Do gamers outside of Japan really like Monster Hunter?” I think it’s safe to say the answer is a definitive yes. Congratulations, Capcom!

Here’s how you voted:

  • Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (Capcom) – 563 votes
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D (Nintendo, Grezzo) – 417 votes
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker (Atlus) – 396 votes
  • Yo-kai Watch (Nintendo, Level-5) – 188 votes

Now it’s time for PS Vita. Once again, the runner-up was fairly close, but the winner crossed the finish line uncontested. I have to admit, I was surprised with the separation here.

The PS Vita Gematsu community Game of the Year is…

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel!

Gematsu Community Games of the Year 2015

The runner-up is Persona 4: Dancing All Night.

The heroes of Class VII left nothing behind but a trail of destruction. Slaying the competition, who were likely too busy dancing all night to notice. On a more serious note, The Legend of Heroes franchise received lots of votes. I think that says our community is hungry for more. *cough* XSEED *cough* Congratulations, Falcom and XSEED Games! I want to give a special thank you to XSEED games for localizing The Legend of Heroes and for announcing its sequel alongside the original release. Without you, most of the fans in the west would be unable to play The Legend of Heroes. Here’s to you!

Here’s how you voted:

  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (XSEED Games, Falcom) – 801 votes
  • Persona 4: Dancing All Night (Atlus) – 333 votes
  • Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (NIS America, Spike Chunsoft) – 310 votes
  • Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation (Idea Factory International, Compile Heart) – 199 votes

Moving on, the PC is always a hot topic here at Gematsu. It’s not something we’ve always covered, but that doesn’t mean our community doesn’t play PC games! In fact, it received over 1,600 votes, which puts it right up there with the Wii U, Vita, and PS4 in terms of total votes.

The PC Gematsu community Game of the Year is…

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!

Gematsu Community Games of the Year 2015

The runner-up is The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC.

The Legend of Heroes is well represented once again, but the second chapter of Trails in the Sky couldn’t top the White Wolf. If we allowed repeat entries, The Witcher 3 would have been a nominee on three different platforms, which says quite a bit. I think it’s a heavy contender for the Game of the Year. Can Geralt slay his foes and win? That’s still to be decided. Congratulations, CD Projekt RED!

Here’s how you voted:

  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (CD Projekt RED) – 751 votes
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC (XSEED Games, Falcom) – 473 votes
  • Undertale (tobyfox) – 331 votes
  • Pillars of Eternity (Paradox Interactive, Obsidian Entertainment) – 99 votes

The votes for the Xbox One Game of the year were close. How close? This was the most contested category without question. The winner and runner up were separated by only 29 votes!

The Xbox One Gematsu community Game of the Year is…

Ori and the Blind Forest!

Gematsu Community Games of the Year 2015

The runner-up is Rise of the Tomb Raider.

It’s clear our community enjoyed both the winner and the runner-up titles, but not even Lara could stop Ori on his quest to restore the forest. Ori went head to head against some big franchises. I think this shows that it’s not about whether the game is triple-A, it’s about if the game is enjoyable. You don’t have to spend billions to make an amazing game that people love, and the results prove it. Congratulations, Moon Studios!

Here’s how you voted:

  • Ori and the Blind Forest (Microsoft, Moon Studios) – 455 votes
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider (Microsoft, Crystal Dynamics) – 426 votes
  • Fallout 4 (Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios) – 343 votes
  • Halo 5: Guardians (Microsoft, 343 Industries) – 181 votes

Last but not least, it’s time to reveal the winner for PlayStation 4. I expected a tighter race, but the winner received just shy of 1,000 votes!

The PlayStation 4 Gematsu community Game of the Year is…

Gematsu Community Games of the Year 2015

The runner-up is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Hideo Kojima’s final Metal Gear fought hard, but in the end Bloodborne dominated and came out on top. Without question, it will be a heavy contender in the Game of the Year vote. Congratulations, From Software!

Here’s how you voted:

  • Bloodborne (Sony Computer Entertainment, From Software) – 994 votes
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Konami, Kojima Productions) – 432 votes
  • Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance (NIS America, Nippon Ichi Software) – 265 votes
  • Until Dawn (Sony Computer Entertainment, Supermassive Games) – 104 votes
