Two new operators also joining some of the returning crew.

Bandai Namco has announced a new downloadable episode for God Eater 2 on PS Vita and PSP. Dubbed God Eater 2: Another Episode: Return of the Defense Unit, it sees characters from the original game’s eponymous Defense Unit making a return in the episode older and wiser.

Featuring returning faces including Karel Schneider, Tatsumi O’Mori, Gina Dickinson, Brendan Bardell, and Shun Ogawa, Return of the Defense Unit has the characters reentering the fold three years older sporting new character designs. Additionally, their God Arcs are said to have been updated and each of them has also received newly recorded lines of voiced dialog.

A handful of new faces are also said to be joining the game as well, consisting of the series’ first male operator, Teruomi Shinkabe (voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki) and Ulala Hoshino (voiced by Haruka Terui). Beating the downloadable episode will not only unlock them for use in the main game, but also trigger what’s only being described for the time being as “the appearance of a special character as an operator.”

Multiplayer functionality is also included as part of the add-on. If the host of a multiplayer game has the content on their system, players can bring in members of the Defense Unit as non-player characters, as well as utilize the previously mentioned new operators. Doing so requires that all players have the version 1.40 update installed, which is free.

God Eater 2: Another Episode: Return of the Defense Unit will be available to download from PlayStation Network for both PS Vita and PSP at a price of 1,000 yen on June 5. Watch the trailer for it below.
