The Elder Scrolls Online will be playable on PlayStation 4 without a PlayStation Plus subscription, Bethesda confirmed during a PlayStation Blog fan Q&A.
Contacted by Joystiq, the company also confirmed Xbox One users, on the other hand, will need an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription to play the game.
Last August, Bethesda said it was “pushing” to get Microsoft to allow free play.
“We have been in talks with Microsoft about that very thing,” Bethesda Softworks marketing boss Peter Hines said then. “And seeing whether or not there’s any room to change their minds about that, for folks who are only playing The Elder Scrolls Online and don’t want to pay for an Xbox Live Gold subscription, just to pay for The Elder Scrolls Online.”
The Elder Scrolls Online is due out on April 4 for PC and this June for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
