Actually looking into it a bit more, it seems that there is more detail in the HD versions FMV, so it’s not just upscaled. But because it’s cropped I’m assuming square is using their old higher resolution source renders instead.

So there’s more detail, but you see less stuff. At least it’s not all bad :)

It didn’t really bother me at first, but after you pointed that out, I can see that the nose does seem a tad odd… Well, we do supposedly have another 9 months or so till the game is released, so I hope that Square Enix will look into it by then…

I still prefer the softer illumination of the HD-remaster version though. In the original PS2 version, the lighting always felt a tad too harsh on Tidus’ face (when compared to the rest of his body) in this particular scene. As for his hair, I personally think they seem more organic and easier to look at now. Well, like I said, there are probably still sometimes left before the game is released, so there might be further tweaking to be seen, similar to how the textures were improved in later trailers of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix when compared to the first one. Perhaps some folks could directly contact Square Enix to express the concern and hope the devs will take that in consideration for improvement, thus accommodating for both the fans of the old and new look.

Anyway, I’ll stop here, as further discussions wouldn’t yield anything good, since it’s all a matter of opinions at this point. I thank you for being patient with me though, as I’ve seen folks elsewhere (i.e. YouTube >_> ) blew up in my face before when I disagreed with their opinions. I hope it all works out for all of us fans by the launch date.

IMO of course, I’m not saying people must agree, but I think this is something important to address for conserving great games in the future. I think this discussion is about preservation of art, in a sense.

Just my imo, but I’m half expecting to be negged by a bunch of people who didn’t even play FF X in 2001. I guarantee anyone here I love FF X as much as the next guy.

IMHO (humble and honest opinion), there are some things that shouldn’t be changed when it comes to remasters, and things like facial characteristics are pretty up there near the top of the list.

The noses don’t even point in the same direction, it’s like Tidus got a nose job to make it thinner and “less” attractive. Just why imo. The shading on his hair is worse, the entire colour saturation is less appealing imo.

Later I will make a FF X HD PCSX2 vs. FF X HD PS3 comparison, in a week or so. Then it’ll really show.

I thought that, compared to the original, the lighting is a whole a lot more accurate and natural. And personally, I like how his hair seems a lot closer to his CG counterpart now, instead of the original bundle of straws and pine cone.

There is a time and place for cheerfulness, and he is neither a freak nor wrong in head, so I think it’s completely normal if his face looks stunned for one particular moment. As for the intro sequence, it was only one single shot, where I personally don’t think he looks expressionless at all, because all they did there was changing his set of generic anime eyebrows to one that curves in a more gentle and natural fashion.

Exactly, such a stupid thing to screw up.

They didn’t even have to change around polygons to make it better, just adding them in doesn’t mean you change the actual structure of his face.

It’s not even the same kid looking at him. He just looks like a bad carpet like this. The lighting over his face and hair is horrible too.

Even his hair is messed up, all patted down compared to the original.

Then explain why his pictures at the “beginning of the game” just look as expressionless.

They took out the character of Tidus in his face. He IS a cheery happy-go-lucky guy.
