I'm not too sure, but Neptunia really revitalized a lot of interest in Japanese-centric games with western audiences, and I think it has just spurned a strong following. Not to mention Compile/Idea are of the very few still bringing JRPG's to consoles rather than portables, so maybe that gives them a boost in popularity?
I think of them sort-of like Suda-51 games; while the gameplay itself might be riddled with faults or just not too inventive, the games themselves are very creative and offer unique experiences you can't get elsewhere. So--- respect and admiration, I guess, is what Compile Heart runs on.

(Personally though, I think Neptunia is one of the weakest series of all time. I truly do not understand why the series succeeds)

I have a feeling that this game is a mixture of Atelier + Disgaea + Cooking Mama for some reason....

But I do not care about that, I love games that don't take themselves seriously...

Honest question, why is Compile Heart so popular? Before Hyperdimension Neptunia they've generally been seen as a D-List developer(from what I've gathered), and the reviews from Hyperdimension Neptunia seems like many people agree. But they still seem able to fund full PS3 games + translations. Are they getting funded by an ever growing niche or are their games truly that good?

Gosh this game looks awesome. I love how neighborly the art-direction is; definitely seems like a very approacable title, even for a rogue.
I'll be very dissapointed if this doesn't get localized; item-creation game + Weak Japanese = Big Trouble Ahead
