Okay, then perhaps it is a screenshot from his more intelligent days. It does require more muscles to frown than to smile, after all. Kratos, at this point, is still intelligent enough to know that it is more profitable to smile than to frown. In which case, Kratos’s intelligence must have been rapidly deteriorating, to the point where he not only allowed himself to be fooled by Ares and accidentally killed his wife but continuously frowning from that point onward.
